japan

mary kate effnerMaryKate Effner, 17, enjoyed participating in the Ross Redmond Short Term Youth Exchange Program to Japan so much, that she did it twice. Miss Effner joined our Rotary Club of Chester-Long Valley meeting on January 27 to share her experiences, which have made her a knowledgeable source of information about Japan.

Miss Effner led us through a presentation of both of her trips, including tours of temples, tea services, and visiting with age relevant students in several Japanese towns. The experiences helped her to understand our cultural differences while celebrating all that we have in common. "It's my second home," she said of Japan.

The trip—sponsored by Rotary District 7470 in New Jersey, USA, and
Rotary District 2670 in Shikoku, Japan—departs June 26, 2014 and returns July 17. Sixteen- to 19-year-old students may apply for the chance at this life-changing experience.

The trip costs each participant $2,700, which includes airfare, food, lodging, and all activities. Interviews have already begun, and the application deadline is March 16 (or until spaces are full).
